At 7:35 tonight, as the sun disappears over the underemployed inhabitants of the City of Pittsburgh, and as they pour into their favorite bars like they do every other night of the week, the Flyers are going to begin playing what has to be 60 minutes of war-like hockey against their beloved Penguins. The Flyers need to battle but, remain tactical. A loss tonight and Thursday's game becomes something of a formality - like a Pittsburghian getting his monthly STD test.

Twenty teams in the history of the NHL have come back from a 0-3 deficit. A loss tonight and the Flyers make Ron Cook look like Andrew Carnegie. (You feelin' me Burgh?)

The circumstances are as good as they're going to get for the good guys - Coming home to a rabid crowd for Game 3 in a building/city that the Penguins historically have not faired well in with their backs against the wall. It's time to put up or shut up.

This is almost as exciting as the time that the power went out at that KFC across from the Warhol Museum, and they had to give away all their chicken. You remember that Pittsburghers? Of course you do.

If the Flyers lose tonight it's pretty much over. Win and it could be the start of a whole new series.

Queue Welcome to The Jungle.

ps - the answer to your question is "yes." I do pity you from my apartment in New York.

Do you have a love affair with Pittsburghers? Why is every part of this entry dedicated to them? The Flyers and their fans need to focus on themselves if they want to pull out a win tonight.

Looks like its time to do everyone a courtesy and shut up. Did the Flyers touch the puck for more than 10 minutes in the last 2 games? You guys are good at one thing - running other team's players. The refs are not even calling penalties on the Cryers and you're still getting the beat down. What happens when the cheap shot strategy doesn't work? You get SWEPT. Smell the brooms beeeeooooootches.

All the Pens fans here are idiots. If you had Gonchar, Whitney, and Malkin out, the series would be very different, just like it is for the Flyers with Timonen, Coburn, and Gagne. The anonymous who said the Flyers run other teams doesn't have a clue about hockey. Does running other teams put the puck in the net? I didn't think so, and the Flyers have made it this far, fuck head.

You can say what you want about Pittsburgh, but Philly is a total craphole too and everyone outside of Philly knows it. Wasn't Philly recently voted the fattest and ugliest city in America?

I mean, if you're going to take shots try doing it in a way that doesn't draw attention to your own glaring weaknesses and shortcomings. That's not very smart.

Something about the crime and murder rate in Philly tells me that the economy isn't doing so well there, either. We may be underemployed in Pittsburgh, but at least we don't run around killing each other over it.

Idiot.

hahahhaha i just laughed when someone tried saying Whitney, Gonchar and Malkin are on the same page as Timonen, Coburn, and Gagne.

Are u serious, Malkin would skate circles around Gagne and Gonchar is better and Timonen, Whitney is better than Coburn

I think you meant losing Timonen, Coburn, and Gagne would be like the pens losing Sydor, Melichar, and Taffe

0-3, about to be swept, the privlege of watching the Pens celebrate on your home ice, and your cat is dead.
Oh, Kittens, boo hoo hoo...
Ha, ha. I hope the rest of your year goes as well as this.

ps - yes, I'm glad your cat is dead.

The pens lost crosby, fleury, and roberts for a third of the regular season. During that time, they climbed into first place.

Bloodhound, as a fellow Pens fan, I have to correct you, Gonchar is definitely not better than Timonen. Give Cobourn another year, he'll be better than Whitney will ever be, it's pretty close already...The only one you are correct about is Malkin being better than Gagne...Go Pens!!

U of Pitt, I believe you're wrong on the Gonch/Timonen thing. Plus/minus is a good universal rating for defensive effectiveness, Gonchar was 22nd overall out of defensemen with a plus 13, Timonen was 146th with a 0 rating. In points, Gonch was second with 65 points, Timonen 11th with 44. Since they both play the powerplay first unit, their ice time is pretty even. So either Gonchar is a better player than Kimmo or the Flyers really suck. I think its probably both!

Hey anonymous, that is your name, right, anonymous? If the Flyers suck, how did they make it to the Conference Finals with our Pens? That's what I love about all these people bashing each other's teams, both the Pens and Flyers are good teams, hence making it to the Conference Finals and part of the 4 remaining teams trying to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals...Oh and thanks for the stats, must have been tough work to google each player than compare their stats, defense is defense regardless of plus/minus and points, Timonen is by far better at his defensive position than Gonchar...
