In his second game for the Lightning, Steve Downie got into it with the much bigger, much more experienced, Cody McLeod. The Lightning rallied after the fight to cut the deficit from 4-4 to 4-3, but couldn't get that fourth goal to tie it. Downie's wearing number 9 in Tampa even though his junior number, 7, and number with the Flyers, 27, are both available. I guess he's looking for a new start. In his first game he received 6:05 of ice time on 10 shifts and even though he served a 5 min major on Saturday his ice time increased to 7:39 during 13 shifts Saturday. Since taking over behind the bench for Barry Melrose, Rick Tocchet has made it clear that he doesn't think the Lightning are tough enough. After their loss on Saturday he said "It's going to get a little ugly around here for some guys. We can't wait any longer, we're starting to slip. I think our patience is running thin on some people. This is a team that, tonight, we knew we had to be desperate. We knew they had a lot of injures. No disrespect to them, I think we had the stronger lineup. We had five or six guys lay eggs. That's not good enough. This is a result-oriented business and they're not getting the job done."
Should be an interesting game on Tuesday...
