A December to Forget

I know that yesterday I wrote a post that was slightly optimistic, but today is Monday, so I'm going to pull back the curtain and show you exactly how bad things could get.

If you didn't know already, we have an NHL Simulator here at the FGSB office. It's highly technical and complex so I won't waste the time trying to explain to you how it works - it's kind of like Quantum Leap meets Everybody Loves Ray - but for the sake of science we're running a simulation of a Flyers season parallel to their actual one. Well, slightly ahead of it actually. The results have not been promising.

After last night's game against the Thrashers, in the simulation season, the Flyers were 14-10. Not much different than the real Flyers current record of 13-10-1.

And then came December.

Holy shit is right.

3-10-2 in December. Murphy's Law has taken effect. It's not that the simulation Flyers aren't getting sustained pressure or their fair share of chances. It's just that the result of great play in the offensive zone all to often results in missed opportunities like this:

They're just not bearing down and I don't know how to make them. The simulation Flyers only put up 2.5 goals per game while their opponents are averaging over 3.5 goals each game. That's not good math. I might have to fire me to send a message.

So while you think about how awful these past two weeks have been over the next couple of days just keep in the back of your mind that they can get way,way worse. Also, you can't see it on the schedule up above but we went ahead and simulated the Winter Classic to see if we might turn things around in January.

Boston 11 - Philadelphia 0. Swear to God. Enjoy your morning.

You guys should put me in there. In a parallel universe, I joined the team as a rookie and won the Calder, Norris and Conn Smythe as the team won the Cup.

Don't ask me on dates in the comments, Fran. We've talked about this.

It's probably because you're #1 winger wasn't dressed for the whole month. We should simulate this Thursday night again with 18 pale ales in tow.

Hopefully I'll never find out. Guessing they put in Jason Alexander though.

in my experience this high-tech simulator usually switches goalies after 6 goals, so if you give up 12 does the starter go back in
