Betts First Game Since Betrayal

I have to assume that players always retain a certain affinity for the clubs that really give them a shot in the NHL. When they move to a new town the of course say all the right things about being excited for a new opportunity with a new club in a new place, but a tiny piece of them has to have thought about settling down in their old town and playing their entire career there. So when a guy goes up against that old team, much like what was highly publicized when Ray Emery played against the Senators the first time, it's probably a bigger deal than they let on.
s
Now throw into the mix that your career with that team was ended by a worthless goon that the team then signed in the off-season instead of you.
s
s
Blair Betts was drafted 33rd overall by the Calgary Flames but never really moved up the ladder with the club. After just 35 NHL games over the course of three seasons the Flames had basically given up on Betts and offered him as part of a prospect package to the Rangers for Chris Simon in 2004. After the lockout Betts was able to crack the Rangers squad and in 2005-06 played his first full season in the NHL. He'd go on to play three more before that hit above ended his career as a Ranger.
s
And then the ultimate slap in the face. Glen Sather, the Rangers GM, actually had the balls to bring in Donald Brashear at $2.8M over 2 years and not resign Betts. It's really hard to believe - it's a disgusting move.
s
So not like Betts needs any extra motivation - he's not one of those guys. But along with that affinity for your first club must come some serious amounts of scorn when they wrong you. And it's difficult for me to remember when any NHL player has been treated with such disrespect by his team. Betts should be on fire defensively today. If he wasn't just coming off an injury I'd say that he owes Brashear a slap shot off the face. See how the Donald likes a broken orbital bone.

The only guy we have that could do anything about this is maybe Asham, but probably Carcillo. I wonder if that code exists between new teammates.

No matter what happens I never get tired of watching this:

i think that it'd be pretty entertaining to watch blair betts skate after brashear brandishing his stick like an axe and embed it into his face.

but carcillo better do somethin' bout this, that's what he's made for. defend your teammates, even if it happened a year ago. i predict another quick punch that won't drop brashit in one punch but should give danny the upper hand.
