Flyers Gameday: Hammer the Devils

Tonight, the halls of the Wachovia Center will relive the great exploits of Dave 'The Hammer' Schultz as the biggest Broad St. Bully gets his place in the Flyers Hall of Fame. The place will be packed and the fandom will be wild.  Flyer greats will be in attendance and we'll be putting the Hammer in its rightful place.  And if that wasn't good enough for you, we also get to play the hotter than the fires of Hell New Jersey Devils.  It's only fitting to play a hated rival on a night where we celebrate the most intimidating player ever.  I wouldn't be surpised if Schultz himself laces up and plays for our 4th line tonight.  Something tells me he can still muck it up.

Whenever we play the Devils it seems like something important is on the line.  Tonight is no different, as New Jersey is trying to tie for the longest road winning streak to start a season.  Record is 10, they have 9.  Also, Fatty McNugget is going for the alltime shutout record as well.  Terry Sawchuk has 103, Brodeur has 102.  So you couple the motivation that NJ will have with the energy the Flyers will be brining and it will be a helluva game.  I love playing against the Devils because they are so easy to hate.  Seriously, name me a player that you like on NJ.  I dare you.  It's impossible to like anyone on that team.  What, Parise?  Langenbruner?  Zajac?  Give me a fucking break.  But to give credit where credit is due, New Jersey is machine.  All these years where they aren't supposed to be good and are supposed to fade, they always make those pundits look like fools.  They have a great system, draft extremely well and giet amazing contributions from no name guys.  They have a solid blueline, good checking line and the best goalie ever.  That's how you win cups and battle year in, year out.  I still hate their guts.

For the Flyers, look for the Rabbit to be back on the ice.  After missing the Buffalo game with the Flu, JVR looks set to dominate once more.  Panotch is reporting that Giroux will be centering Powe and Asham, a move that means Mika Pyrorala will again be on the 1st line with Richards.  Briere-Carter-Rabbit line should factor into this game in a positive way for Philly.  They have the speed and finesse to fly right past any defence and I can see them accounting for the majority of the points tonight.  New Jersey always does a good job on the counter rush so keeping the puck deep and good two-way play will decide the game tonight.  There will be battles and most definitely some fights.  With King Hammer in attendance expect some pugilism in his honor.  Seriously, would it surprise you if Carcillo came out in full gladiator armor, brandishing a broadsword?  Schultz sitting in the Emperor's box, getting fed grapes from the IceGirls as he decides with a thumbs up or down the fate of a beaten Matt Clarkson. Yes, I envision such a game and hope it becomes a reality.

So we don't have to wait 10 days anymore for Flyers hockey.  We also convert our red zone opportunites.  So go to happy hour on a day you normally run home crying.  It's time for hockey, and it's time to honor Dave Schultz.  Do it because you hate the Devils.  Do it to start another 5 game win streak.  Do it to stick it to a guy who bangs his wife's sister. Do it for the 20,000 screaming fans. Do it for the Hammer.  Let's Go Flyers.

Pyorala on the first line. If I'm Mike Richards I'd have to ask Geoffrey Stevens-Beene if he wants me to get any points this year.

I'd say "Give me some X!" and totally Degeneration X his ass. And then take some X right before the game and go out there dressed inside out.

Michelle C: enjoy it! I hope they put on a show for you...and next time, invite me.

Guest: Whoever you are, I agree with you. I want Giroux to be playing with guys who can finish. I love Powe's heart and Ash's grit, but X needs a sniper who can finish what he sets up.
Giroux?

I don't know how I feel about Giroux still playing down with the 3rd line. They gave Rabbit a chance and he has been stellar, why not through Giroux a few games over say...Hartnell or something. I don't know, I just think Giroux has the skill if they give him a few games to learn his teammates, and good teammates at that...

"go to happy hour on a day you normally run home crying"

That is EXACTLY what I plan to do- happy to have the FGSB blessing. I'm still stewing over Saturday's loss, coincidentally my first in-person game of the year. Hope they put a hurtin' on the Devils tonight!
