Flyers Gameday:More like a Drizzle

Tonight the Flyers all head back to reality a bit before we do as they take on the Carolina Hurricanes down in the dirty dirty.  Two days off after a convincing win against Tampa Bay, the Flyers opponent is struggling just as much as Philly.  Carolina is the worst team in the East, and have been beaten twice already this year by the Flyers.  If you think things are rough in Philly, try living in Eric Staal's shoes for a day.  The flyers are looking for consistency, and there is no better opponent this year for that, than Carolina.

Carolina is looking like the front runner for the Adam Hall sweepstakes.  Troubling as this team has a lot of quality parts.  The have big names, veteran leadership and a stud goalie, yet have trouble finding ways to win hockey games (sound familiar?).  In a league with this much talent and parity, Carolina is a great example of how you can have visions of Cups dancing in your head, yet end up in the basement.  The glaring issue on the Canes is their lack of scoring.  After 'Gunnar' Staal, Ray Whitney and Tuououmoumou Ruutu, there isn't much else there to bury the biscuit.  Old Flyer Rod the Bod is struggling on the fourth line and this once great stallion may be put to pasture come spring.  Keep your eyes on that sneaky Sergei Samsanov and the wee-littlest Sutter there is, Brandon.  Both guys are young and give the Canes a pulse. The Canes D is lead by Joni Pitkanen.  That's all you need to know about that clusterfuck.

For the Flyers, consistency is all anyone is looking for.  I kinda wish we could played 4 games in 4 nights after that Tampa game.  I have fears that two days of eggnog, waffles and christmas ham is gonna make Scott Hartnell as fast as Derian Hatcher out there.  Here's hoping that i'm wrong and that two days of family got everybody's head on straight.  JVR has played very well this year against the Canes, and I could see Rabbit bust out for a goal tonight.  With Gags and Powerhouse back, the offense really feels back.  Mix in Powe's forechecking and speed with Gagne's passing, skating and hands and you add in two huge pieces to an offense that was lifeless in December.  I'm pumped to see how the Blair Lappillo line does tonight (see what I did there?) They really motored all night against TB and their hard work always gives the Flyers confidence.  If we can play with heart and energy, the Canes shouldn't be too hard to beat.  Early goals and alot of offensive pressure may cause Carolina to fold up onto themselves the way the Halloween game happened(6-1, good guys).  I don't know if we'll get that outcome tonight, but I fully expect a win for the Flyers.

Philly is looking for two in a row, Carolina is looking to stop a 3 game skid.  Something's gotta give, and I'm not talking about Jack Nicholson.  Winnable games does not mean they are gimmies,  If the Flyers prepare and wear their hearts on their orange sleeves, they'll  crush anyone.  Fuck Christmas, shit's over.  Let's Go Flyers.
