Monday Flyers Something

I don't know how else to describe it except as "a bit hollow" - literally and figuratively. That's Monday morning for you after one of the more historic sports weekends Philadelphia's ever seen.

In the mix of candy, Sierra Nevada's, and low calorie Gatorade I do remember a lot of orange on Saturday afternoon. One thing I specifically remember was a Hurricanes goal hinting at the beginning of a comeback, and then a certain Flyer killing any notion of that on a tremendous more or less individual effort that pretty much put the game away with over 35 minutes left to play. Especially with the recent injuries the Flyers have been presented with, James van Riemsdyk has been an integral part of this young season so far. Rabbit is currently tied for third in the NHL in rookie scoring (10 pts in 9 games), having played six less games than the leader, Michael Del Zotto, who is only two points ahead of him. If the Flyers are going to continue to stay in the race for the Atlantic they're going to need to keep getting significant contributions from unexpected places.

If Rabbit can have a year that even closely resembles a run at the Calder with 50-60 points it will pay dividends for the Flyers that will be reflected in their position in the standings.

Today is going to be a rough one. But we have a Flyers game starting at 5 and then the Phils need us to root them on tonight even if this time your only fuel is Sprite Zero and tears.

Note to the reader: I hope to contribute a more significant post than "I feel like shit JVR scored a goal on Saturday" at some point today but my wits have not yet arrived from wherever they were left yesterday, so we'll see how things go.
