OKT and Syvret Require Some Changes

With Ryan Parent out for at least the next three games it looks like the Flyers are going to be dressing both Ole-Kristian Tollefsen and Danny Syvret on the blue line. This would be a great time and reason to break up the defensive pairing of Braydon Coburn and Kimmo Timonen for at least a few games, who are a combined minus 8 so far this season. Not to upset Matt Carle's Norris trophy run, but I think this change in personnel is going to require a full reshuffling of the deck. I'm thinking:

Pronger - Syvret
Timonen - Carle
Coburn - Tollefsen

I've always been a fan of throwing a more defensively minded defenseman with a partner who is, well... not.  Pronger and Timonen are all-star caliber defensmen so I think putting the two weakest defenders with them would be a smart move. Despite Braydon Coburn's recent soft play I think he would benefit from playing with the seventh defenseman. I think it would display the coaches' confidence in him and he'd be able to step up and focus on keeping pucks out of the Flyers net and clearing the zone effectively.

No word yet on who the Flyers will call up from the Phantoms to ride the pine in case another d-man gets hurt before Parent gets healthy. I'm pretty sure the only person it can't be is Randy Jones, because of salary cap issues. But it's Sunday and I'm too lazy to try and figure that out. That would leave the options at Joey Mormina, Sean Curry, Oskars Bartulis, Kevin Marshall, Joonas Lehtivuori, and Marc-Andre Bourdon, who actually started the season with the Flyers when OKT was on 7 day injured reserve on opening weekend.

If reading this post was as boring as writing it then I suggest you reward yourself with a beer and get ready for Philadelphia sports to resume in an hour. I'd like to meet with the person who scheduled the Flyers to have 1 game in 10 days. Feels like July 17th or something.

Chuck here...

Not sure why, but i don't find this to be concerning.

We have some huge minute eaters in Prongs, Carle, Timmonen, and Coburn can get up towards 25 too if need be...therefore, we might only need about 6-8 minutes apiece from Syvret and Oleg...

Now, I can see the Prongs/Syvret pairing, but only so Coburn can be demoted to 12 minutes or so....

Giving me:

Prongs 28
Kimmo 26
Carle 25
Coburn 15
OTE 8
Syvret 8

Coburn needs to be admonished somehow...playing him with OTE and shifting on some in the top two pair as well should be enough...

8 minutes apiece...if we can't get that, then I suppose we deserve to lose. When those guys are on the ice, the guys up front have to be cognizant and play differently.
