The More You Know - A PSA About Money

Listen up kids. I know some of you might be learning about days, and months, and years. And that's great, because you're going to need to know all about them. But when you turn 22, or for a lot of you 16, you're going to find out that none of those units of time means anything, and how adults measure their lives is by something called a "pay period."

See kids, depending on your industry (including n/a), you either get paid every 2 weeks or every 15 days. And you spend most of your time relishing the pay date that just passed or eagerly looking forward to the pay day that is coming up.

Whiskey and cigarettes are not free just because your parents give them to you now. They have to pay for those presents for you with money. And money comes in the aforementioned cycle.

So while many people would have you look at the number of Flyers games by month to see what the slowest month is, it's more logical to look at it in regards to the only unit of time that matters - the pay period (this is especially true every four years when we have the Olympics).

So the reason daddy may have been yelling at mommy a lot lately is that the Flyers have only played three games since daddy got his last check! Isn't that crazy? So when she went out and bought groceries with his gambling money he was right to be mad. He hasn't had any distractions since Saturday. Luckily for you this is as bad as it's going to get for a while. The Flyers have a game more or less every other night for the rest of the year! And when it looks like they have none in late February there is actually going to be so much hockey on that your dad probably won't even look for a job those two weeks he'll be having so much fun!

The worst is almost over lil' buddy! Hurray for Kimmo Timonen!
