Flyers Beat Stars in Hockey Game

First off, before I seal the roof on this beyatch, let me congratulate Sean B for his win in last night's contest. The winning team was comprised of Scott Hartnell, Simon Gagne, Ian Laperriere, Chris Pronger, and Matt Carle. We had Brian F come in a very close second and then Courtney V in third. An interesting stat that can be pulled from all the data we accumulated is this - there is 1 personout of 86 of you that picked the Flyers to lose. The shame you must feel, Pete Rose…

Speaking of. Our Google analytics say we had exactly 700 visitors yesterday (no joke) and right on the page it says that particular post had 299 hits and we only got 86 submissions? I thought Americans love free t-shirts! I know ours suck but gimmie a breaksville! Are you a bunch of commies? If some of you readers all holding out for a night with Fran as the prizethen you don't have to wait very long. Because next week inside the shirt comes Fran. And we're not about to be giving you any underpants. So get ready.

To the game…some thoughts:

- That Ryan Parent penalty. If you're a ref, and you're going to call that shit then call it all game. Goals in the first period don't count for less than goals in the third. There were at least 3 blatant occurrences of the same exact play as the game was winding down - against both the Stars and Flyers. This is one of those arguments where I'm just being indignant for the sake of it becausein reality Idon't want that call to be made at all. But as a ref a penalty should be a penalty no matter what the clock says.

- During the pre-lock out 2000's, the 90's, and the '80's were guys so blatant about coming for a shift change? Is the NHL standard to waive over to your buddy on the bench and give him a thumbs up so he can put down his coffee and get his gloves on? I would think a guy who's watching you, and sees you half ass forechecking in a manner that definitely indicates your mind is drawing you over towards the bench, might know that you're coming. Enough with the fucking SOS for the change.

- I borrowed a baby from a neighbor last night to watch the game with. I thought of it on the way home. I've watched hockey with war vets, Gen Xers, people my age, kids, and young punks, but never a baby. The baby really didn't enhance the experience like I thought it would. After it crawled into the kitchen I didn't see it again until the end of the game.

- Best part of the game, and you missed this if you were watching the Philly feed, was the Dallas announcers in the second:

"The Flyers are in deep. Hartnell going in on the forecheck. Now he's in really deep (laughing)! Hartnell's just getting out of the Stars net!"

This was all as regular, normal hockey was going on. And serves as a great example of what you can expect out of Scott Hartnell. He's like the kid in pre-school who when you have all your students line up and sit Indian style (racist?) you can't find him. And you look up and he's eating a shoe on top of the refrigerator.

- Love Coburn's hit on either Neal at the end of the second. The rookie was hitting guys late all game. Nice to see Coburn go right after him on a shift that saw him get dumped earlier.

- Now change your channel if you don't want to see this:

Steve Ott - You can look at this however you want. As me 'giving in' to him like Sean Avery or me correctly pointing out what a piece of shit he is. First of all, I'm not surprised that hardly anyone laid a finger on Ott (except Kimmo!) but I'm disappointed. First he knocks Syvret out for months, who apparently is as dead to the Flyers as a Joe Schmo contestant, and then he caps off 4 goals in two games with a Brashearesque hit on Blair Betts at the end of the game - to which it appears the penalty was captain Mike Richards telling him he wasn't a cool dude. They call him the Ott Truck down there. Christ. They should call him the main float from the Weasel Day parade. How he did not get called for some kind of interference when he pinned one of our defensemen against our own net in the firstis ridiculous. There's establishing body position and there's interference. I swore for 2 seconds that Kimmo was going to get put through the glass by that fat fuck, which is what made the outcome so exciting. I don't know how he did it but Kimmo is my hero for that hit and then continuing to rough Ott up while he tried to get up. And that's why he's my dealer.

Asham? Really?

Carcillo seems to follow the pattern: interpret what your role is, really oversell it, garner criticism, reel it in. As an enforcer, then as an energy guy/agitator, now as a top line guy who digs in corners and draws penalties. I'm sure he realizes the negative attention, and after seeing his jump-into-boards routine on tape, will probably trend back towards drawing, as opposed to selling.

And yeah, I forgot about Ulfie. Fucking hate that guy.

I've tried to like Asham, even though I haven't at some points. Carcillo's starting to get on my shit list for his diving.

Never liked Ulf Samuelson.

Of course we'd like him as a Flyer. He is, in all discernible ways, Hartnell's fat cousin.

Can you think of a guy the Flyers have ever acquired that you didn't like, based on previously playing against him?

I didn't participate because the rules were too complex. I liked the first contest better.

Honestly I can't even answer that. I pretty much force myself to like any Flyers, so probably yes, but it would be a stretch. And he probably fucked a goat after the loss cause he looks like a fucking goat:

Steve Ott, for what its worth, fucked a goat after the loss.

...Would we like him if he was a Flyer?

I'm embarassed. You've officially e-embarassed me.
Although what I was doing was emotionally hedging myself. Wish I had a t-shirt to mop up my tears with...

Booyakasha. The shirt will be put to good use my friends. And I had a wet dream last night thinking about that Timmo hit on Ott. Who did Brian F have on his squad for last night?

Hell yeah. Great win. Now, can we do that against a top team in the East team for once?
