Well last night was....yeah..let's just forget about last night. Tonight the Flyers see-saw of a season continues as they get a quick rematch against those pesky Atlanta Thrashers. The Thrash, who would be a tough matchup for any team come playoff time, are getting hot at the right moment. It's up to the Flyers to stop playing down to these teams, and start dominating hockey games. If we continute to see this type of play out of a team that was supposed to contend for the East crown, then how likely is it that they can win 4 out of 7 in a playoff series? Alas, this is nothing new, for since 2006, the Flyers have struggled to consistently play to a high level. Maybe as fans we are demanding too much....but I don't think thats it. Watching last nights game, as soo many others have been this year, you don't see that sense of urgency. Playing hockey, at this point in the year without urgency will get you an early tee time in April. Its up to this talented group of players to play their best every night. Is that really asking all that much from professional athletes?
Tim Panaccio had a solid point on Twitter last night...that Boucher gives up an early goal and then settles down. Last night, in front of a shitty defense, he did just that. This is no way to win a hockey game, and Boucher needs to be stronger. The defense needs to be stronger. Hell, the entire team, down to the equipment managers needs to be stronger. Some home cookin' will help, but this team is in big trouble if it can't find ways to get energized. I don't care if you need Carcillo to start injecting 5 Hour Energy into everyone...or if you need to play "Welcome to the Jungle" on loop the entire night, but this coin-flip shit has got to stop.
Now the Flyers are still in control of their own destiny, and will be in the playoff race as long as they continue to compete. I know I'm not along when I ask for them to compete every night. We don't know what team will come out of that tunnel tonight just yet, but my guess is, it'll be the right one. Let's Go Flyers.
