Maybe the hardest thing to believe as we play, and lose to, these teams that seem like they've scrapped together players from here and there, and are in their third beta stage before the real release comes in maybe 3 years, is that the Flyers are a team that's been hand crafted, designed to win, and ready for the Cup run at the beginning of every season. And these teams that are in beta deserve to be in 9th place and have their announcers spend half the night talking about how close they are to a playoff spot, because while we took one chance in signing a question mark in Ray Emery, they gobbled them up in the form of Nik Antropov, Maxim Afinogenov, and Rich Peverly - two under-achievers and an incredible waiver wire claim.
And yet, we can't beat them.
We are the team that needed a tweak here and a Pronger there, and we addressed both. And we can't beat the teams who have no identity because they're just scrapping as a franchise.
It's March 21 and by the time our game starts tonight we might be in a 3 way tie for 7th place, only 3 points ahead of 8th. Why's there so much focus on making the playoffs when it only means that you'll have one more week of hockey?
March has been pretty rough.
Beat Tampa. Lose to Florida. Tie Buffalo. Beat Toronto. Beat the Islanders. Lose to Boston. Beat Chicago. Lose to New York. Tie Nashville. Beat Dallas. Lose to Atlanta. ???
What we've been tricked into doing is to look at the standings and look down. See who's chasing us and make sure we're going to be able to out run them. But let me ask you a question, if they don't catch us by April 11th, and we feel safe for a second and finally turn around and look forward, are you really going to be relieved at what we're facing?
And maybe most importantly of all - is that Owen Wilson?
