Marion, Control Your Temper

Danny Briere is in a scrum off to the side of the net and Donald Brashear rips him out of it.

They exchange some gloves to the face.

Danny drops his gloves.

What I would hope, as a Flyers fan, is that Donald Brashear would just kind of hold him and laugh at him. But as soon as Briere's gloveless hands came anywhere near Brashear's face I'm not sure what would happen. If Brashear ended up wailing on Briere I would hope someone would jump in as the third man. Either way I'd call Brashear a goon, say that there's no honor in what he did - every mild-mannered insult I could think of.

But in the end, once again as a Flyers fan, all my thoughts would come back to "Danny, what were you thinking?"

Last night Marion Gaborik threw a piece of raw meat to a french bulldog with rabies. The reason why Dany Briere won't get into something like that is he'd never drop his gloves with 95% of the Rangers. And regardless of your opinion on the instigator rule it exists.

I don't even know what the competitive thing to do is. If Daniel Carcillo can get Marion Gaborik and his 29 goals off the ice for 5 minutes isn't he supposed to do that?

The black and white is Marin Gaborik should know his role (The Tooth Fairy comes out today).
They grey is what Daniel Carcillo should do in that situation. I know what he will do 100% of the time. And I'm not sure that's the wrong answer.

I'm happy Carcillo fought like he was fighting a comparable goon and not a star player. If he had acted like a wimp EVERYONE would be slamming him - but no matter who he fights the Rangers are going to bitch about it, so might as well teach Marion (chick's name) what the price of false teeth is, eh?

If you want to fight, drop your gloves. If not, keep them on. It's that simple. It doesn't matter what your name is. Marion got his ass beat. Simple really.
Bottom Line

Look, the bottom line is this, code or no code, the game last night was one of the most entertaining games I have watched all season and the score was only 2-0. The Carcillo/Gaborik thing adds another element to the game. The fans absolutely love that shit and so do I. The crowd was pumped. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next. And, it carries over to the next meetings between these two teams. Does anyone actually think the Flyers/Stars or Flyers/Blue Jackets games that were loaded with offense even compared to this game? Those were comparable snoozefests. When will the NHL learn that this stuff is good for the game?

Does everyone think Avery runs someone like Giroux/JVR/Briere in their next game, or is it just a Desperado between Carcillo and Brashear?

That was a good read. A little too offended but good. The media in both cities sensationalizes everything.

If you missed the MSG announcers they were hilarious. Joe Michelob had one leg out of booth at one point getting ready to climb down to the ice.

I hate to violate "The Code" and link to another site, but this is a must read. I know Fran and the guys live in NYC anyway. Carcillo deserves a bad reputation, but not to this extent...

The saying goes "always pick on someone your own size"... and it goes both ways! What the hell was Gabby thinking? Maybe he misread the jersey number, thinking it was 12 not 13. What the hell was Carcillo supposed to do? Bitch slap him?

"I give Carcillo credit, he's taking things as far as he can, while still maintaining control by a thread. "

Much like Aerosmith, I want Dan Carcillo to always be "Livin' on the Edge"

The difference here is that Gabby took Carcillo away from the scrum...

And yeah, Carcillo threw some punches. He could have destroyed Gaborik. But he didn't.

Did you notice how right after it went down, the announcers were appalled? But later in the game, they watched yet another replay and admitted that Gaborik did sorta ask for what he got...

This is kinda like the Bradley debate, right? I don't think you can say with 100% certainty that Carcillo was out of line. He was defitely flirting with the line, but not blantantly over it. To me, Gaborik seemed to push the issue as much as Danny. I didn't see Gaborik trying to skate away, hug it out, or antyhing else that would have allowed him to save face, but not get his face bashed in.

I give Carcillo credit, he's taking things as far as he can, while still maintaining control by a thread.

I love it, Flyers hockey!

Carcillo absolutely did the best thing for his team. If Marion drops the gloves and Carcillo doesn't fight him then all the Rangers and Rangers fans call him a pussy. It also worked out well for us that Marion was in the box for all of Scott Hartnells 4 minute high sticking penalty. What do you think Rangers fans would say if Avery got Briere or Carter in a fight, they would love it. It would be the best thing for there team.
